IRIX 6.5.18 Installation Tools and Overlays, November 2002 README

The IRIX 6.5.18 Overlay CDs contain the miniroot and other components necessary to boot the system into the basic installation environment for operating system installs and upgrades. They also contain documentation called "Customer Welcome", which includes Installing IRIX 6.5 pages that provide important information you should read before you install this release of IRIX.

To view the Installing IRIX 6.5 pages

1. Insert the Installation Tools and Overlays CD 1-of-4 November 2002 into the CD-ROM drive.

2. Open a Web browser and enter the following address:

file:///CDROM/WhatsNew/yourSystem.html

NOTE: Literally type yourSystem.html; do not type your actual system name.

3. Click the "Installing IRIX 6.5" link.

You may also access the Installing IRIX 6.5 pages from SupportFolio at the following URL:

http://support.sgi.com/6.5/installing.html

and on the IRIX 6.5.18 Base Documentation, November 2002 CD.

Important

Carefully follow the instructions in the CD booklet that came packaged with the 6.5.18 CDs. It is especially important to follow the instructions when upgrading from a release prior to IRIX 6.5. Among other things, these instructions tell you how to insert all applicable IRIX 6.5 CDROMs (or open all network distribution directories) as well as the 6.5.18 CDROMs, before issuing any "keep" or "install" commands. If this is not done, your installation will not be successful (you will get unresolvable conflicts). Refer to the CD installation booklet for a list of applicable and necessary CDs.

As a reminder, you may want to check "Caveat and Release Note Updates" link at http://support.sgi.com/6.5/caveat_updates.html for any late-breaking information.
